Explorer Scouts (14-17)

Explorer Scouts

Adventure; Progression; Exploration.

Sir David Attenborough; David Beckham and Richard Hammond. We’re not saying that Explorers guarantees fame but you’d be surprised how much the two correspond.

Whitchurch Explorers, located in Shropshire, delivers a fulfilling and enriching programme which provides participants with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. These opportunities, tailored for Ages 14 to 18, are thoroughly enjoyed by all our members in our fortnightly Friday sessions. Making up the forth section of the Scouting infrastructure, we have many regular attendees – from across the age breadth. Our leadership has a plentiful amount of experience between them and they’re all approachable and equally happy to help.

What Our Explorers Get Up To?

We have many of our members involved in activities from a local level right through to participating in international activities. From 2017, Karakoram Explorers has been heavily involved in the sport of Target Shooting – winning medals across a multiple year span. Three of our Explorers are members of the National Scout Rifle Squad and five of them are members of the County Rifle Squad – and all of these discovered the passion of shooting through their involvement in the Scouting organisation. Could you be the next one? At the 2020 Shropshoot County Competition, these five members placed within the top 8 of all participants.

Our Explorers are well travelled as a bonus. By travelling to Ireland in 2018, 8 of our members participated in the Jambori’18. Meeting Scouts and Explorers from nations such as Canada, Denmark and the United States of America, this experience was wholly enjoyed by all. Over the 9 days, they participated in all activities from forms of communications to waterslides and trailing different types of food to firing water-rockets. New forms of transport were discovered and memories to last a lifetime were forged.

Pick up new experiences as you pass GO! Our explorers braved The Beast from The East to participate in the Alternative Monopoly Run. Sub-Zero conditions were battled and Rush Hour traffic overcome, 6 of our explorers cherished this experience – racing around the board from Whitechapel Road to Mayfair.

Gilwell 24 – where else would you be able to scuba dive at 3:30am in the morning and drive a car at the age of 14. These opportunities simply would not have been possible if it hadn’t have been for the Explorer movement. Admittedly, not all of them were in the fittest state when they finished but it was still a premium opportunity which would not be forgotten for a while

Not Just A Weeknight Chore:

Not only is Explorers a key to unlock the door to life – but it also provides young people with an amazing social experience, mixing with people who they may not have previously met or talked to. Many of our Explorers that the main reason they come to explorers is the friendship. Surely you would rather spend a week evening with a group of likeminded people rather than sitting on the games console being boring!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
